On Monday, the hashtag ‘#RIPCartoonNetwork’ gained popularity when someone posted a video with the caption, ‘Cartoon Network is dead!?’. The rumor was received by the public as a channel closure notice, even though the video brought up a completely unrelated topic.
In fact, this piece helped me understand the difficulties of being an animator in 2024. The topic of layoffs, unstable finances, unemployment, and ultimately, animator termination, is emphasized throughout the film.
It also went into detail about how, once the animation business had a rise during the epidemic, the studios quickly canceled projects, outsourced work, or even fired a significant number of artists.
Next, it requested that users support animators by sharing their favorite childhood cartoon network program along with the hashtag #RIPCartoonNetwork. The hashtag was interpreted incorrectly by some viewers, though, who thought it meant the station was closing.
