Print Ad Space Grows 5% in H1 2024, Led by Education and Auto Sectors
Print advertising space per publication increased by 5% in the first half of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year, according to a report released recently by TAM, which is based on its most recent AdEx report.
According to the report, the education sector led with 19% of the ad space share in the print media, followed by services with 15%. Top 5 sectors-education, services and auto, banking/finance/investment and retail account for more than 60% share of ad space in print.
In print, the top 10 ad categories captured 45% of the ad space in the first half of 2024. More important, four categories in that list moved up. Cars became number one during that period. The Multiple Courses, Properties/Real Estates, Retail Outlets-Electronics/Durables, and Schools remained in the same ranks in the first half of 2024. Among the list were three education sectors and two auto and services category.
The period January to June 2024 print advertising world witnessed tremendous growth in positive numbers with more than 280 categories that grew. Cars have followed the most significant ad space growth: namely, 25% increase compared with the same period last year. Cellular phones-smart phones followed with a 2.9 times rise in the same period of the past year.
According to the report, from January to June 2024, the combined share of the top ten contributors held 14% in ad space. Maruti Suzuki India topped the list while SBS Biotech followed the chart. Eight of last period’s top ten advertisers featured in the similar rankings. In contrast, Samsung India Electronics and Kent Ro System jumped into the top 10 rankings in 2024.
More than 105,000 brands advertised in print during this time. Among the top ten, two were from personal accessories and durables, while three represented the education sector. The top 10 brands advertising in print included four from the Education sector and three from Auto Sector.
Ad sales promotion accounted for 28% of the share in print from January to June 24. Discount promotion leads the list under sales promotions, which captures a dominant 44% share of ad space, while multiple promotions come in second.
