Since the first bottle of Jim Beam, it is still made with the same values and family recipe and aged for at least four years, twice as long as the law requires in new, level-4 char American White Oak barrels that lend it a smooth, extra mellow flavor. During the late 18th century, members of the Böhm family, who eventually changed the spelling of their surname to “Beam”, emigrated from Germany and settled in Kentucky. They had the knowledge of distilling spirits out of grains, and they realized that the weather in Kentucky was ideal for growing corn, hence the first bottle of Jim Beam with the family recipe was bottled in 1795.
