In a significant development, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has issued an official advisory to OTT platforms, streaming services, and digital intermediaries operating in India, instructing them to immediately discontinue all content originating from Pakistan. This includes web series, films, songs, podcasts, and any other form of streaming media, whether free or subscription-based.
Citing the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, the advisory emphasizes that platforms must exercise discretion and avoid content that could harm India’s sovereignty, security, or its relations with foreign states.
The move comes in the wake of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which had cross-border linkages and resulted in multiple casualties, including Indian and Nepali citizens. The Ministry highlighted the need to uphold national interest and public safety as a priority.
The directive is backed by the Ministry’s authority and aligns with India’s ongoing efforts to regulate digital platforms under ethical and national security frameworks.
Mauve India Magazine will continue to monitor the implications of this advisory on the digital content landscape and the OTT ecosystem in the country.
