A day prior to the commencement of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity 2024, the shortlisted campaigns from eleven out of the 31 categories were announced on June 16th. Among these, twenty Indian campaigns were selected from a total of 26,753 entries submitted across various categories for the event scheduled from June 17th to 21st.
The categories for Cannes Lions 2024 included Design, Digital Craft, Direct, Entertainment, Gaming, Music, Sport, Industry Craft, Media, PR, and Social & Influencer Lions. Notably, VML’s work on Times of India’s #UnplasticIndia and McCann Worldgroup’s Fit My Feet campaign for Buckaroo Footwear were shortlisted in the Design category for poster and medical subcategories respectively. In Industry Craft, VML’s campaigns for Times of India (Seal Alarm and Seabird Alarm) and Ogilvy’s Taj Mahal Megh Santoor campaign for Taj Mahal Tea were recognized.
India secured three spots in the Direct category with Leo Burnett’s Gatorade Turffinder campaign, McCann Worldgroup’s Fit My Feet campaign, and Dentsu Creative’s Motorola Deep Connect campaign. In Media, the Taj Mahal Megh Santoor campaign by Rapport Outdoor Advertising and Ogilvy, along with the Cosplay campaign for McDonald’s by DDB Mudra Group and Wieden+Kennedy New York, received nominations. Ogilvy’s Erase Valentine’s Day campaign for Mondelez made the cut in the Entertainment category.
For Entertainment Lions for Music, Leo Burnett’s Feel The Music for Spotify India, and VML’s Sing to Remember for Coca-Cola’s Coke Studio were shortlisted. Leo Burnett’s Gatorade Turffinder campaign also earned a spot in the Entertainment for Sport category. FCB Kinnect’s Lulumelon Eoss campaign for HDFC Bank excelled in the PR category, being shortlisted in three subcategories: Business to Business/Consumer Service, Use of Events and Stunts, and Corporate Purpose & Social Responsibility. Additionally, Leo Burnett’s Gatorade Turffinder and VML’s Sing to Remember campaigns for Coca-Cola’s Coke Studio were also recognized in this category.
However, Indian campaigns did not secure nominations in the Digital Craft, Social & Influencer, and Entertainment for Gaming categories.
