Reliance Retail Competes with Blinkit and Swiggy Instamart
That marks the entry of Reliance Retail into fast-growing quick commerce, challenging major players like Blinkit, owned by Zomato, Swiggy Instamart, and BigBasket. Starting in selective segments of Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru, the retail behemoth will offer quick commerce services through JioMart, The Economic Times reported citing that Reliance is trying to make a significant play in the fast-emerging quick delivery space.
It will start its quick commerce business with selling grocery products through all of its 3,000 stores. The value fashion and electronics including smartphones and laptops will come to Reliance Digital and Trends outlets to pick up the orders for quick commerce.
Reliance Retail will scale up its quick commerce operations to reach 10-15 minute deliveries by the end of this month, the company said, adding that most orders would be completed within 30 minutes. It will use its logistics arm Grab for delivery and leverage its existing retail infrastructure, different from companies like Blinkit or Swiggy Instamart, which use dark stores or warehouses.
Reliance is doing away with delivery, platform and surge fees for its quick commerce service to attract customers. The company plans to expand the reach of operations to 1,150 cities and 5,000 pin codes in smaller towns and cities that may give it an edge over competitors that are focusing on so doing.
