At a time when Indian entertainment is rapidly evolving across OTT, creator-led platforms, and global storytelling spaces, a new generation of writers is emerging with the ability to move seamlessly between cinema, digital culture, and branded entertainment. Among them is Aekansh Vats – actor, screenwriter, and creative director- whose journey reflects the changing face of modern storytelling in India.
Aekansh began his career as a child actor, appearing in acclaimed projects like Dev.D directed by Anurag Kashyap and popular television shows like Balika Vadhu. While acting introduced him to the world of cinema at an early age, storytelling itself became the creative space he felt most connected to.
Over the years, he built his foundation through theatre, training and performing for nearly a decade across platforms including NSD (TIE), Barry John workshops, Sahitya Kala Parishad workshops, and international theatre festivals. This exposure shaped his understanding of performance, dialogue, humour, and emotionally layered storytelling, elements that continue to influence his writing today.
Gradually transitioning from acting to writing and creative development, Aekansh has worked across films, advertising, digital platforms, and creator-led content. His work spans branded storytelling, original concepts, digital campaigns, and long-format narratives designed for modern audiences consuming content across multiple platforms.
One of his last major projects before attending the National Film and Television School (NFTS), UK, was the vertical drama series Tu Influencer Hai Kya under BBKV Productions, which was shot in late 2025. Following his return from the UK, his recent work includes a newly released digital ad series for Licious, reflecting his growing interest in blending cinematic storytelling with branded entertainment formats.
Aekansh has also contributed to story development for projects with creators and production companies His writing primarily explores genres like thriller and comedy, often combining grounded emotions with contemporary cultural observations and digital-first narratives.
Recently, his work received international recognition through the National Film and Television School (NFTS), where he was awarded a grant for advanced writing programs focused on Screenwriting and TV Drama Bible creation. He was also selected for the preliminary workshop stage at TorinoFilmLab’s Comedy Script Lab and the accelerated writers’ program at Stowe Story Labs.
What makes Aekansh’s journey particularly relevant today is his understanding of both traditional cinematic storytelling and the rapidly evolving creator economy. From vertical dramas and digital campaigns to feature film structures and OTT narratives, he represents a
generation of writers adapting stories for changing audience behaviour and shorter attention spans without losing emotional depth.
“At the end of the day, audiences connect with honesty. Platforms may change, formats may evolve, but emotions will always remain timeless,” says Aekansh.
