Anurag Singh Thakur, the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, marked a significant moment by launching the inaugural season of “Swaraj” on the popular OTT platform Amazon Prime. The launch event, held on Tuesday, was graced by Minister Thakur who highlighted the importance of the series in honoring the unsung heroes of India’s independence struggle.
In his address, Minister Thakur expressed pride in the tribute “Swaraj” pays to the brave individuals who sacrificed everything for the nation’s freedom. He emphasized that the series, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” national campaign, sheds light on lesser-known stories of valor from India’s struggle for independence.
“Swaraj” comprises 75 episodes, meticulously covering the narratives of unsung heroes from every corner of India. Minister Thakur underscored the series’ role in elucidating the significance and consequences of colonialism, providing a deeper understanding of the concept of ‘Swaraj’ – self-rule.
Moreover, Minister Thakur highlighted the importance of embracing India’s rich historical legacy, stating that a deep sense of pride in one’s history is essential for shaping a glorious future for the country. He reiterated the government’s commitment, under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, to propel India forward towards progress and development.
The Minister also commended the role of Prasar Bharati, particularly Doordarshan and Akashvani, in fostering national unity and spirit through impactful programs.
Additionally, Minister Thakur announced the launch of a new 52-episode serial titled “Sardar: The Game Changer” by Doordarshan, commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
Addressing the audience, Sushant Sreeram, Country Director of Prime Video India, emphasized Amazon’s dedication to showcasing India’s culture and history, aligning with the vision outlined in the Letter of Engagement between Amazon India and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
The producer of “Swaraj,” Abhimanyu Singh, highlighted the series’ journey, encapsulating India’s trajectory from Vasco Da Gama’s arrival in 1498 to the nation’s independence in 1947, emphasizing the transformative sacrifices of India’s freedom fighters amidst colonial rule.
The launch of “Swaraj” Season One on Amazon Prime stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts aimed at celebrating India’s heritage and strengthening its creative landscape on a global platform.
