Air India Express seized the chance to introduce its new Boeing 737-8 and tail art inspired by the ancient “Jamdani” design that adorns Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. Jamdani is Bengal’s one of the finest patterns and is created through soft-handloom weaving intricate floral, vine, leaf, and geometric motifs. Jamdani is woven into Bengali culture; it gets weaved into marriages, festivals, and other celebrations.
In keeping with the special airfare, employees of Air India Express wore Jamdani traditional attire to greet the aircraft, VT-BXG, coming in from Kolkata. This aircraft operates Kolkata – Jaipur sector.
But then, there is yet another new airplane of Air India Express, inducted recently, with a beautiful Kantha design adorning the tail, that is VT-BXU. Kantha is a technique originating in Bengal, where old saris and clothes were not discarded but turned into quilts or blankets. Often the designs depict everyday life, folk stories and nature; it is, therefore, an art done by local artists.
It has also continued its unique tradition since the relaunch in October 2023 of its refreshed brand identity, where every new aircraft entering the fleet will have a variable tailfin design inspired by the rich art and crafts heritage of the country on the tail. The airline has inducted 35 aircraft into its fleet since last year and now operates a total fleet size of 89 narrowbody Airbus and Boeing aircraft. Air India Express still sticks to delivering individualized product and service offerings with a touch of unique Indian warmth while celebrating the rich cultural heritage of this particular state as well as its special tradition. The airline, with its 217 weekly flights from West Bengal, remains committed to providing personalized product and service offerings, yet this time around with a sense of unique Indian warmth while celebrating the state’s rich cultural heritage.
