Alia Bhatt stuns in 1965-hour Sabyasachi saree at Met Gala

Alia Bhatt dazzled everyone at the Met Gala in her breathtaking mint-green Sabyasachi saree! The Bollywood superstar looked absolutely stunning as she graced the green carpet in her ethereal outfit.

Alia shared some gorgeous pictures on Instagram and gave us a peek into the making of her dress. The saree was designed by the renowned fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Alia described it as a tribute to art and eternity, designed to be timeless. The saree was a masterpiece of intricate embroidery and delicate beadwork. What’s even more astonishing is that it took a whopping 1965 hours to make! Can you imagine that? A total of 163 people, including craftsmen, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, worked together to create this stunning piece.

The theme of this year’s Met Gala was ‘Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,’ and Alia’s saree perfectly embodied the theme. It had a foot-long train adorned with hand-woven floral designs made from silk floss, glass beads, and semi-precious gemstones.

In an interview with Vogue, Alia explained why she chose this particular Sabyasachi saree for the Met Gala. She said she was drawn to the audacity of the outfit, how it seamlessly combined traditional craftsmanship with avant-garde aesthetics.

Alia also took a moment to thank all the craftsmen involved in creating her saree. She expressed her gratitude, saying, “Creating this saree has been quite an experience—fun and stressful in equal parts. It has taken a collective effort of 163 dedicated individuals, including master craftspeople, embroiderers, artists, and dyers, investing a total of 1965 man-hours to create this ethereal saree. As I wear this outfit, I feel incredibly grateful to embody this exquisite creation.”

Alia’s saree was a perfect blend of tradition and modernity, just like her. It was a proud moment for Indian fashion at the Met Gala!

Last year, Alia made her Met Gala debut in a beautiful white gown adorned with pearls, in line with the 2023 theme – ‘Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty.’

Alia’s saree was inspired by a short story called ‘Garden Of Time’ written by JG Ballard. The Met Gala, as always, took place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
