The ride-hailing giant, Ola Cabs, has shifted from Google Maps to its inhouse Ola Maps; it would save itself something like Rs 100 crore every year on costs incurred for the service. “After Azure exit last month, we’ve now fully exited Google Maps. We used to spend Rs 100 crore a year but we’ve made that 0 this month by moving completely to our inhouse Ola Maps! Check your Ola app and update if needed,” said Bhavish Aggarwal, cofounder and chairman of Ola Group. It’s not a one-off situation about wanting to port off Microsoft. The development comes just three months after Ola Group migrated its entire workload in-house to its artificial intelligence firm Krutrim, ending its partnership with Microsoft Azure. In the May update, Aggarwal posted on X that the company was cutting cords with Microsoft Azure and would onboard the whole workload to Krutrim within a week. At the Krutrim AI launch event, the company also disclosed that it will provide mapping solutions within its cloud service.
