Amazon MGM Studios drops the trailer of VIBE, starring Kunal Kemmu, Preity G Zinta and Sparsh Shrivastava; the action-comedy arrives in cinemas on September 18.

Some friendships are built on calm conversations, shared plans and knowing exactly what tomorrow looks like. Others are built on questionable decisions, unexpected chaos and somehow surviving it all together.

VIBE appears to belong firmly to the second category.

Amazon MGM Studios has unveiled the trailer of Kunal Kemmu’s upcoming theatrical action-comedy, VIBE, a high-energy film that throws two ordinary friends into an extraordinary situation—and then lets the chaos unfold.

Written and directed by Kemmu, the film is set to release in cinemas on September 18, 2026.

When Two Very Ordinary Friends Become Very Unlikely Heroes

At the centre of VIBE are Hardik, played by Kunal Kemmu, and Bugs, played by Sparsh Shrivastava. The two friends appear to be living relatively ordinary lives until they find themselves pulled into a high-stakes mission when the nation faces a looming danger.

The problem? They are spectacularly unprepared.

Their sudden transformation from everyday friends to unlikely heroes forms the comic heart of the trailer, which combines action sequences with irreverent humour, fast-paced banter and the kind of escalating madness that makes an action-comedy work.

The film’s story is built around survival, friendship and two people trying to navigate circumstances that are very much beyond their control.

Preity G Zinta Gets an Action-Comedy Makeover

Adding another layer to the film is Preity G Zinta, who steps into a very different avatar as Madam H.

As the person who thrusts Hardik and Bugs into their dangerous mission, Madam H appears to bring authority, intensity and an entirely different energy to the otherwise chaotic duo.

For G Zinta, the character’s determination was one of the major attractions.

“What I really enjoyed about my character was that she has an energy that is completely her own. She loves her country and will go to any lengths to protect it. When there is a job to be done, she is going to find a way, by hook or by crook, whatever it takes. I loved playing someone with that kind of determination, and the role also allowed me to explore a side of myself that audiences haven’t seen before. Kunal knows what he wants from his actors, and working on this mad film was such an adventure—you never really knew what the next day was going to bring, which somehow felt very appropriate for a film called VIBE.”

It marks an interesting departure for the actor, with the trailer positioning her in a more action-oriented, commanding role.

Kunal Kemmu Wants the Full Big-Screen Package

For Kemmu, VIBE is designed first and foremost as an entertainer.

The filmmaker has brought together comedy, action, romance and music, while keeping friendship at the centre of the story.

“With VIBE, I wanted to make a no-holds-barred entertainer that audiences can watch and enjoy in cinemas with family or friends or even on their own. It’s got everything I love about movies—rib-tickling comedy, high-octane action, cutesy romance, buzzing music, and so much more.”

The actor-director also describes the comedy as coming from watching ordinary people deal with extraordinary chaos—something that appears to drive much of the film’s premise.

“For me, the comedy comes from watching ordinary people find themselves in the middle of chaos that is completely beyond their control.”

And judging by the trailer, there is plenty of chaos to go around.

An Ensemble That Brings Its Own VIBE

Alongside Kemmu, G Zinta and Shrivastava, the film features Vanshika Dhir, Yashpal Sharma and Dinesh Lal Yadav in pivotal roles.

The ensemble is part of what gives the film its energetic, unpredictable quality, with Kemmu highlighting the distinct contributions of the cast.

“Preity, Sparsh, Vanshika, Yashpal, Dinesh, and the rest of the cast each brought something so distinct to the table that the dynamics only became more fun as we went along.”

The trailer leans into that ensemble energy, moving between friendship-driven comedy, action, danger and unexpected turns.

Amazon MGM Studios Bets on the Theatrical Experience

For Amazon MGM Studios, VIBE is being positioned as a film that can bring audiences together for a theatrical experience.

Nikhil Madhok, Director and Head of Originals, Prime Video (SVOD) and Amazon MGM Studios India, said:

“What excited us about VIBE was the delicious contradiction at the heart of the film. The situation demands heroes, but the two people caught in the middle are the least likely options.”

That contradiction could be the film’s biggest selling point. The stakes may be enormous, but the people dealing with them are anything but conventional action heroes.

The result is a film that appears to be less interested in taking itself seriously and more interested in keeping audiences entertained.

A First Production for Drongo Films

VIBE also marks the first production from Drongo Films, with Chirag Nihalani serving as producer and co-founder alongside Kemmu.

For Nihalani, the film represents the company’s ambition to begin with something distinctive and entertaining.

“As our first production, VIBE holds a very special place for us. From the beginning, Kunal and I were clear that our first film had to be ambitious, distinctive, and, above all, hugely entertaining while leaving a lasting impression on audiences.”

The film is produced by Kunal Kemmu and Chirag Nihalani under the Drongo Films banner.

Friendship, Bad Decisions and a Lot of Trouble

If there is one recurring thread running through the trailer and the team’s descriptions of VIBE, it is friendship.

Hardik and Bugs aren’t trained spies, seasoned action heroes or people who seem particularly equipped to save the day. They are friends who happen to find themselves in a situation much bigger than themselves.

And perhaps that is where the film’s comedy finds its footing.

As Kemmu puts it:

“It’s a film packed with chases, danger, confusion, friendship, and a lot of bad decisions, which is probably a pretty accurate description of why I enjoyed making it so much.”

The Mauve Take

Big explosions are great. But give us two completely unprepared friends, throw them into a national crisis, add Preity G Zinta in an action avatar and let Kunal Kemmu direct the madness—and suddenly, we’re interested.

VIBE looks like it is bringing together the ingredients of a classic big-screen entertainer: action, comedy, friendship, romance, music and plenty of things going spectacularly wrong.

And if the title is anything to go by, this one isn’t trying to fit into anyone else’s mood.
