With RECAST, the designer brings 27 years of experience into a new conversation on Indian textiles, contemporary tailoring and the evolving language of menswear.
New Delhi, October 2026: What happens when the traditions of Indian craftsmanship meet the vocabulary of modern dressing? For designer Pawan Sachdevaa, the answer lies in reimagining familiar techniques, textiles and silhouettes for a generation that approaches fashion with a different sensibility. His upcoming collection, RECAST – Recasting the Familiar. Redefining the Modern Silhouette, will make its debut at Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI on October 17, 2026, at 6:30 PM.
With more than 27 years in the industry, Sachdevaa returns with a collection that looks at Indian craft through a contemporary lens. Rather than treating heritage as something to be preserved in its original form, RECAST explores how its visual language can evolve through modern tailoring, urban dressing and unconventional textile combinations.
The premise is simple yet compelling: tradition need not remain confined to the past. It can be reconstructed, reinterpreted and worn on entirely new terms.
When Indian Craft Meets Contemporary Construction
At the heart of RECAST is a dialogue between the familiar and the unexpected. The collection brings traditional Indian craftsmanship into conversation with denim, workwear and contemporary proportions, creating a wardrobe that moves fluidly between casual dressing, luxury streetwear and modern formalwear.
Bandhani, Shibori, Kasuti and Kantha are reinterpreted through a gender-fluid design vocabulary, while Kala Cotton Khadi, Khadi Silk, Matka Silk, Habutai Silk, bouclé and denim introduce a varied interplay of textures. The contrast between handcrafted surfaces and structured silhouettes becomes central to the collection’s identity.
Jackets, coats, shirts, utility separates, relaxed tailoring and fluid trousers serve as canvases for these interventions. Acid washing, enzyme washing, stone washing and ombré dyeing further transform the materials, giving traditional textile sensibilities a more contemporary visual character.
The result is an approach to design that values the irregularity and individuality of craft while embracing the precision of modern construction.
A New Language of Menswear
The colour palette moves through indigo, ecru, black and mustard, drawing on the depth of Indian textiles and the organic character associated with natural dyes. These shades anchor the collection while allowing texture, surface treatments and silhouettes to take centre stage.
What makes RECAST particularly relevant is its approach to versatility. The pieces are conceived for a wardrobe that does not adhere rigidly to traditional categories of occasion or dressing. A structured jacket can sit alongside utility-inspired separates, while fluid trousers and textured shirts offer alternatives to conventional formalwear.
This balance between functionality and refinement reflects a wider shift in contemporary menswear, where personal expression increasingly takes precedence over established dress codes. By bringing heritage textiles into this evolving conversation, Sachdevaa positions Indian craftsmanship as an active participant in modern fashion rather than a decorative reference.
27 Years of Design, Reimagined
Sachdevaa’s approach to RECAST builds on a design practice shaped by an emphasis on fit, detailing and versatile essentials. Since launching his label in 1999, the designer has developed a distinct presence in Indian menswear, with a retail presence in Delhi and an international footprint across Europe and the Middle East.
The new collection represents another chapter in that journey, bringing years of experience into a more experimental exploration of materials, construction and contemporary identity.
For a fashion landscape increasingly interested in the relationship between cultural heritage and modern design, RECAST offers a perspective that looks beyond preservation. It asks how traditional techniques can continue to evolve, find new audiences and remain relevant to the way people dress today.
At Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI 2026, Pawan Sachdevaa’s proposition is one of transformation: familiar Indian elements, reconsidered through a modern lens, with craftsmanship remaining at the centre of the conversation.
