Unilever Veteran Samir Singh Departs After 27 Years with the Brand
After a 27-year stint with the FMCG brand, Unilever veteran Samir Singh is on his way out of the organization. Singh is the chair of Unilever Asia and head of Unilever Singapore Hub for Unilever.
He wrote on his LinkedIn, “We tend to remember our careers and life as a series of big events, the highs and the lows. But I would tend to argue that life truly happens in the nooks and crannies, the ebb and flow of daily existence. What kept me at Unilever and Hindustan Unilever for such a long time, beyond the diversity of roles and locations; beyond successes and failures are the small and often overlooked joysthat this everyday existence brings.”
Singh has around 20 years of experience in Beauty & Personal Care spanning categories like Skin Care, Bath & Body, and Make-up, touching all major regions of the globe. He has served on the Global Beauty & Personal Care Leadership Team; he was a member of the board for the Unilever Asia Pte and is also a former Executive Director of the Hindustan Unilever (HUL) Management Committee.
IMD Singh first joined the FMCG major in 1998 first as an area sales manager for Hindustan Unilever,. In 2001, he acquired a senior brand manager status on skin care. After two years, he became regional brand manager, the same position for SEA, as well as Middle East. In 2005, he became regional marketing director for skin care in SEA. Later, he became Unilever’s global head of marketing for skin care. After becoming global marketing director for Vaseline in global director position for skin care, was stationed in Singapore.
He also led the global branding strategy for Lifebuoy before coming back home to HUL as executive director for personal care in 2014; he was then promoted to a bigger global role as global executive vice president of skin cleansing. Singh continued to rise higher, becoming EVP for global skin cleansing and oral care in 2020, and most recently he succeeded into the role of chief marketing officer for personal care in 2022.
He said, “I’m delighted to say that I have formally accepted a great role in a company I have always admired — for their brands and for their values. I will announce/join towards the end of the year after serving out my garden leave.”
