Airtel to Shut Down Wynk Music, Partners with Apple for Streaming Services
According to Money Control, Bharti Airtel will close its steaming music service, Wynk Music, and take all its employees inside the Airtel ecosystem.
The company spokesperson told, “We can confirm that we will sunset Wynk Music and all Wynk music employees will be absorbed within the Airtel ecosystem.”.
Bharti Airtel has collaborated with Apple Inc. to promote exclusive offers to Indian customers for over-the-top OTT video and music streaming on the latter’s Apple TV+ and Apple Music platforms.
Airtel, on August 27, announced a strategic relationship with Apple by introducing exciting offers for Apple TV+ and Apple Music for its OTT video and music streaming services respectively in India. Further, Airtel Xstream subscribers would gain access to Apple TV+ content through premium Airtel WiFi and Postpaid plans. According to Airtel, the entry of Apple TV+ is set to make its Airtel Xstream fiber offering substantially enticing.
“Airtel customers will get Apple Music. Also, the customers on Wynk Premium will get special offers from Airtel on Apple Music,” said a spokesperson from Bharti Airtel.
Some sources indicated that Airtel decided to axe the Wynk service as it had become economically unviable to continue the operation without a concrete monetisation roadmap.
