The cult franchise’s first major theatrical outing makes a powerful debut, with ₹27.85 crore coming from Hindi and ₹26 lakh from Telugu.
Some franchises arrive in theatres with anticipation. Others arrive with an audience already waiting.
Mirzapur: The Movie has done the latter.
After years of building a fiercely loyal fan base, Excel Entertainment and Amazon MGM Studios’ Mirzapur: The Movie has brought the cult series’ much-loved world to the big screen—and the box office opening suggests that the franchise’s bhaukaal has travelled well beyond streaming.
The film has opened at an impressive ₹28.11 crore on Day 1, recording ₹27.85 crore from Hindi and ₹26 lakh from Telugu. Released worldwide in Hindi and Telugu, the film marks the franchise’s first large-scale theatrical leap and has turned one of Indian entertainment’s most recognisable fictional worlds into a cinematic event.
From its announcement to the release of its trailer, Mirzapur: The Movie has remained firmly on the radar of its loyal fanbase. The return of familiar faces—including Ali Fazal, Divyenndu and Pankaj Tripathi—has only added to the anticipation surrounding the film.
And now, the opening numbers have given that anticipation a significant box-office payoff.
The film is also benefiting from positive word of mouth, strong audience response and houseful shows across several locations. With the festival weekend ahead, Mirzapur: The Movie is positioned for further momentum as audiences continue to return to the world of Mirzapur.
What makes the opening particularly significant is the scale of the transition. Mirzapur was built as a streaming phenomenon, becoming synonymous with its raw storytelling, memorable characters and instantly recognisable dialogue. Taking that universe into cinemas was therefore more than simply another franchise release—it was a test of whether a streaming-led cult following could translate into theatrical footfall.
Day one has offered a strong answer.
The film expands the ensemble with Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohitt Maalik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Pramod Pathak, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi and Sonal S Chauhan, bringing together an extensive cast for an untold chapter from the Mirzapur universe.
Presented by Amazon MGM Studios and Excel Entertainment, Mirzapur: The Movie is directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna. The film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner of Excel Entertainment, with Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani serving as co-producers.
Released in cinemas on September 4, 2026, Mirzapur: The Movie has made its theatrical entry with a clear message: when a franchise has built this kind of fandom, the bhaukaal doesn’t necessarily end when the screen changes from streaming to cinema.
Sometimes, it gets bigger.
