The project also arrives at an important moment for Singapore’s innovation economy. Under its Research, Innovation and Enterprise 2030 plan, Singapore is set to invest S$37 billion in research and development over the next five years, building on the S$28 billion committed under RIE2025.
At the same time, the automotive industry is undergoing one of its most significant transformations in generations. Global research and development spending on automobiles and transport reached €146 billion in 2023, according to the European Commission’s Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard.
