The US rollout covers logged-in users aged 18 and over on web and iOS across Free, Go, Plus and Pro plans.
Health in ChatGPT allows eligible US users to connect health and medical information and manage how it is used in conversations
The revised experience can use connected health information across conversations when the user permits it. That could mean considering a food allergy during restaurant planning or taking account of an injury when discussing physical activities.
Health remains available through the ChatGPT sidebar as the central place for connecting accounts, viewing records and trends, managing information and returning to earlier health conversations. Users can also add @Health to a message when they want ChatGPT to include their health context explicitly.
OpenAI cites feedback from early users who wanted help organizing records dispersed across different services. Blake, identified as a technical program manager, says: “The most useful part has been turning scattered medical history into something I can actually understand and explain.”
Personalized responses still depend on the quality of the connected information. OpenAI warns that records may be incomplete or outdated, including medication lists that have not been updated after someone stops taking a drug. Users are advised to check important details against the original record.
OpenAI sets separate rules for connected health data
By default, ChatGPT asks permission before using medical records or Apple Health information in a response. Users can approve access for an individual request or allow continuing access, with the setting available under Plugins in ChatGPT.
OpenAI states that connected medical records, Apple Health information and conversations using that data are not used to train its foundation models or target advertising, regardless of the user’s standard model-training setting. The data also receives additional encryption protections alongside the encryption applied to all ChatGPT conversations at rest and in transit.
Disconnecting a health account starts the deletion of information synced from that source, which OpenAI says will be removed from its systems within 30 days. However, information already included in previous ChatGPT conversations remains in the user’s history until those conversations are deleted.
Memories may be created from Health conversations, but OpenAI says they are not generated directly from connected records or Apple Health data. Temporary Chat or disabling memory can be used to prevent a conversation from creating memories.
Physicians assess GPT-5.6 on health tasks
OpenAI says it worked with hundreds of physicians to create health scenarios and assessment criteria covering accuracy, safety, communication, completeness, context awareness and escalation to professional care.
According to the company, every GPT-5.6 model outperformed GPT-5.5 on HealthBench Professional, its evaluation for complex health tasks. GPT-5.5 Instant is available to Free users, while GPT-5.6 Sol is offered to paid users.
Physicians also tested Health with connected data before release. OpenAI acknowledges that ChatGPT can still make mistakes and does not replace the judgment or care of qualified medical professionals.
Users included in the US rollout can open Health from the ChatGPT sidebar or More menu, select “Get started” and connect a supported account. Synchronization may take several minutes.
