Kolkata, 28th October 2026: Dr Rajeev Singh, Director General, Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), in his introductory remark said, “We are truly honoured to welcome a person whose journey inspires millions and who has created new benchmarks. From leaving home at the age of 19 with just a tiffin box and ₹10 in his pocket, but with big dreams, to building the $35 billion Vedanta Group, Mr Anil Agarwal’s journey is a remarkable story of perseverance and success. His achievements continue to motivate budding entrepreneurs, while his pledge to dedicate 75% of his wealth to the nation and initiatives such as Nand Ghar, supporting 15,000 Anganwadis, reflect his belief that wealth creation should benefit society and the country. It is our privilege to welcome him today.”
In his welcome address, Mr. Keshav Bhajanka, Senior Vice President, ICC & Executive Director Centuryply Board (India) Ltd. said, “It is an honour and privilege to extend a warm welcome to Shri Anil Agarwal ji, an entrepreneur whose journey reflects the transformative power of vision, conviction and determination. From arriving in Mumbai at the age of 19 with a tiffin box, a bedding roll and dreams in his eyes, to building the Vedanta Group into a global business force, his journey has been remarkable. His bold decisions in transforming businesses such as BALCO and Hindustan Zinc, and his ambition to take India onto the global stage, exemplify his ability to recognise potential where others see challenges. Beyond industry, his pledge to dedicate 75% of his wealth to philanthropy reflects a vision that extends beyond building businesses to transforming lives and contributing to the nation. Today, we welcome a leader whose achievements extend far beyond enterprise and whose journey continues to inspire India’s entrepreneurial spirit.”
Speaking on the session hosted by Mr. Parthiv Neotia, President, Indian Chamber of Commerce and Managing Director, Ambuja Neotia- Healthcare, Mr Anil Agarwal, Founder & Chairman, Vedanta Group, said, “India cannot continue to depend on imports when we have the resources to manufacture these products at home. We need to accelerate mineral exploration, encourage entrepreneurs to invest in mining and build downstream industries that convert our natural resources into high-value products. While large mining projects take years to materialise, downstream manufacturing can create businesses, jobs and economic value much faster. India must move from being an importer to becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse. Entrepreneurship is about persistence, innovation and creating opportunities for others. And when businesses perform well, shareholders must also benefit, backed by strong corporate governance and transparency.”
In his vote of thanks, Mr, Gyanesh Chaudhary, Vice President, ICC, said, “On behalf of the Indian Chamber of Commerce, I thank Mr Anil Agarwal for sharing his insights on Indian manufacturing, entrepreneurial ambition and the importance of building a business story that attracts capital, talent and customers. Your journey, alongside your work through Nand Ghar for rural women and children, offers valuable lessons in combining business growth with social impact. My thanks to Mr Parthiv Neotia for moderating the conversation and to the ICC team for making this interaction possible.”
