Don’t Be Shy Trailer Introduces a Complicated Young Adult Story
The trailer introduces audiences to Shyamili “Shy” Das, played by Aarushi Bajaj, a fiercely independent young woman whose carefully planned life begins to unravel following an unexpected turn of events.
As Shy attempts to put her life back on track, she finds herself caught between her romantic feelings for Mayank (Piyush Khati), a rich and popular student, and her estranged childhood friend Dhruv (Ansh Duggal).
Things become even more complicated with the arrival of Tara (Bianca Arora), a mysterious and vibrant presence who enters Shy’s college life. What begins as an attempt to regain control soon turns into a chaotic mix of unexpected connections, twists and hilarious situations.
With its blend of romance, friendship, humour and coming-of-age themes, Don’t Be Shy promises a fresh take on the young adult romantic comedy genre.
Sreeti Mukerji on Making Don’t Be Shy
Writer and director Sreeti Mukerji shared that the film was inspired by the movies she grew up watching and continues to revisit for comfort and entertainment.
“Don’t Be Shy came from a place of missing the movies I watched growing up—movies I still return to when I want to feel safe, comforted, and entertained.”
Mukerji described the film as a tribute to the period of life when young people stand on the threshold of adulthood while still figuring themselves out. She also expressed gratitude to Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt for trusting her with the story, as well as Prime Video and the film’s young cast.
She added that she is excited for audiences to meet the characters when the film premieres on September 25.
Aarushi Bajaj on Playing Shy
For Aarushi Bajaj, stepping into the role of Shy meant portraying a character very different from herself.
“Playing a character so different from who I am was both challenging and exciting,” Bajaj said, adding that playing Shy pushed her outside her comfort zone and gave her a sense of responsibility toward the character’s journey.
The actor said she is looking forward to audiences finally meeting Shy and experiencing the story through her perspective.
Bianca Arora Opens Up About Tara
Bianca Arora described Tara as a character with a distinctive way of looking at the world.
According to Arora, playing Tara allowed her to explore a more expressive side of herself on camera. She said she found joy in discovering both the character and a new side of her own performance while working on the film.
Ansh Duggal Makes His Film Debut
For Ansh Duggal, Don’t Be Shy marks his first film, making the upcoming release a particularly significant milestone.
“There’s something surreal about knowing that my very first film is about to be watched by audiences around the world,” Duggal shared, describing himself as nervous, excited and grateful to begin his journey with the film.
Piyush Khati on Playing Mayank
Piyush Khati spoke about the different layers of his character, Mayank, and the process of bringing him to life.
The actor said that he discovered unexpected similarities between himself and the character while preparing for the role. He also highlighted the bond shared by the film’s four newcomers, who experienced the journey together from being a group of fresh faces to seeing their film ready for audiences.
