Recognised at the CII National Award for Environmental Best Practices 2026, the Mehsana-based company is advancing a shared-infrastructure model designed to improve industrial water recovery and resource efficiency.
As industries rethink their relationship with natural resources, the future of sustainable manufacturing may depend as much on infrastructure as it does on innovation. In Gujarat, Vihaan Clean & Green Tech Private Limited is bringing that idea into focus, earning the highest award category at the 13th edition of the CII National Award for Environmental Best Practices 2026.
The Mehsana-based company was recognised among 56 shortlisted projects selected from 316 entries submitted across India. Held on October 8 and 9 at Hotel Feathers in Manappakkam, Chennai, the awards programme organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) celebrates industrial initiatives that demonstrate environmental improvements through cleaner technologies, processes and practices.
For Vihaan, the recognition highlights a model of industrial infrastructure built around a shared principle: making environmental responsibility more accessible through common facilities, resource recovery and more efficient utility management.
Rethinking the Infrastructure Behind Industry
At Dholasan in Mehsana, Vihaan operates a shared utility model serving the food-processing sector, bringing together centralised wastewater treatment and common steam-generation infrastructure.
Rather than requiring individual businesses to develop and operate all such facilities independently, the model allows participating industries to access common environmental and utility services. This approach can reduce the need for duplicated infrastructure while supporting more systematic wastewater management and resource efficiency.
The model also reflects a wider challenge facing industrial clusters across India, where water security, pollution prevention and efficient resource use are becoming increasingly important to long-term operational resilience.
By integrating treatment and utility services, shared infrastructure offers one way for industries to address these priorities collectively.
The Next Phase: Water Recovery at Scale
Vihaan is now preparing to expand its facility through Phase II, which is targeted for commissioning in February 2027.
The proposed expansion will add 3 million litres per day (MLD) of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) treatment capacity, alongside 60 tonnes per hour (TPH) of biomass-based steam generation.
Once completed, the facility is expected to achieve a total wastewater-treatment capacity of 6 MLD and steam-generation capacity of 100 TPH.
Its ZLD system is designed to recover approximately 90 per cent of water for reuse, supporting a more circular approach to industrial water management. The principle behind Zero Liquid Discharge is to minimise liquid waste leaving a facility by treating wastewater and recovering water for further use.
For water-intensive sectors such as food processing, these systems can form an important part of efforts to improve water utilisation and manage industrial wastewater more responsibly.
Building Sustainability into Industrial Growth
Commenting on the recognition, Amit Badlani, Managing Director of Vihaan Clean & Green Tech Private Limited, said the award reinforces the company’s belief that environmental responsibility must be built into industrial growth.
He highlighted the role of shared infrastructure in making sustainable practices more accessible, scalable and effective across industries.
That idea sits at the heart of Vihaan’s approach: connecting environmental management with the practical requirements of industrial operations. Rather than treating wastewater treatment and utility provision as isolated functions, the shared model brings them together within a common system.
The recognition at the CII awards places the company’s initiative among the projects acknowledged through a national industry platform focused on environmental best practices and replicable solutions.
A Broader Conversation About Responsible Manufacturing
India’s industrial growth increasingly brings questions of water availability, resource recovery and pollution prevention into sharper focus. For manufacturing clusters, the challenge is to strengthen environmental performance while maintaining operational efficiency and competitiveness.
Shared treatment facilities and integrated utility systems offer one potential pathway, allowing multiple businesses to benefit from common infrastructure rather than duplicating resources at individual units.
Vihaan’s recognition underscores the role such models can play in the broader conversation about responsible industrial development. Its planned expansion will be an important next step in translating that approach into greater treatment and utility capacity.
As the company prepares for its next phase, its award-winning initiative offers a reminder that some of the most consequential sustainability efforts take place behind the scenes, within the systems that enable industries to operate.
