For a long time, luxury was associated with excess. It meant owning more, choosing rare products and seeking experiences that stood apart from everyday life. Today, that definition is evolving.
Luxury is increasingly being viewed through a different lens. It is less about how much we consume and more about what we choose, where it comes from and how it fits into our lives.
This shift is particularly visible in the way people approach food, wellness and everyday living. Consumers are becoming more mindful of ingredients, quality, provenance and the values behind the brands they support. As a result, indulgence is no longer necessarily about having more. It is increasingly about finding pleasure in products and experiences that also align with personal values.
Having spent more than two decades in the corporate world before entering entrepreneurship, I have experienced this transition both personally and professionally. My journey from corporate leadership to building Savore has reinforced a belief that has become central to my approach: living well is about enjoying life with greater intention, not greater restriction.
From Consumption to Considered Choices
Modern consumers are looking beyond the surface of a product. Packaging, presentation and brand heritage continue to influence purchasing decisions, but they are no longer the only considerations.
People increasingly want to know what goes into a product, where it comes from and whether it complements the lifestyle they are trying to create.
This shift is particularly relevant to food.
Food has always been closely connected to culture, celebration and emotion in India. Our culinary traditions have evolved over generations, with ingredients, recipes and rituals carrying stories of their own. Yet, as lifestyles become faster and more global, there is an opportunity to reinterpret these traditions for contemporary consumers without losing their cultural essence.
At Savore, this thought forms an important part of our philosophy. We see food and lifestyle choices not simply as transactions, but as opportunities to bring together quality, indulgence, cultural relevance and mindful living.
The objective is not to make premium living feel restrictive or inaccessible. It is about bringing greater thoughtfulness to everyday experiences.
Wellness Is Becoming a Way of Life
The conversation around wellness has also changed significantly.
Earlier, wellness was often associated with specific diets, fitness routines or health practices. Today, it is increasingly understood as a broader approach to living.
What we eat, how we spend our time, the products we bring into our homes and the experiences we create all contribute to our overall sense of well-being.
This makes mindful nutrition particularly relevant.
Mindful nutrition is not about following rigid rules or viewing food only as fuel. It is about developing greater awareness of what we consume while maintaining a healthy relationship with food.
There should still be room for pleasure and indulgence. In fact, removing enjoyment from the conversation can make healthy living feel restrictive rather than sustainable.
There is growing interest in finding a balance between nourishment and enjoyment. People want products that support their aspirations for better living without compromising on taste, experience or quality.
Finding Luxury in the Everyday
One of the most interesting aspects of this changing definition of luxury is that it can be found in ordinary moments.
A thoughtfully prepared breakfast, a well-curated pantry, a meal shared with family or a familiar Indian ingredient presented in a contemporary way can all become meaningful experiences.
This is also changing what consumers expect from premium brands.
A product is no longer considered aspirational simply because it looks sophisticated. There is a growing expectation for substance, authenticity and purpose behind the experience.
For brands, this means understanding that premium positioning is ultimately built on trust and relevance.
At Savore, our vision is rooted in creating a lifestyle experience that celebrates India’s culinary heritage while speaking to the aspirations of today’s discerning consumers. We want to explore how familiar traditions and contemporary preferences can come together naturally.
India has an extraordinary culinary legacy. The opportunity lies in presenting that richness to consumers who are more curious, informed and selective about what they bring into their lives.
The Entrepreneurial Perspective
Building a brand in this environment requires more than identifying a market opportunity. It requires an understanding of the cultural and behavioural changes shaping consumer preferences.
My transition into entrepreneurship taught me that experience from the corporate world can provide a strong foundation, but building something of your own requires a different mindset. It demands curiosity, adaptability and a willingness to think beyond immediate outcomes.
For me, Savore represents that journey of reinvention.
It is an attempt to create a brand that reflects how the idea of living well is changing. The focus is not simply on premium products, but on creating a connection between quality, culture, responsible consumption and everyday enjoyment.
This is particularly important at a time when consumers have access to an overwhelming number of options. When everything is available, discernment becomes valuable.
People are increasingly looking for products that have a clear purpose and brands whose values resonate with their own.
A New Definition of Indulgence
Perhaps the biggest change is the way we understand indulgence itself.
Indulgence does not necessarily have to mean excess.
It can mean taking the time to appreciate what we eat. It can mean selecting quality over quantity. It can mean choosing something rooted in heritage while still being relevant to contemporary lifestyles.
It can also mean enjoying food without guilt while remaining mindful of the broader decisions we make every day.
This balance represents the essence of the new luxury.
As consumer expectations evolve, brands have an opportunity to move beyond selling products and become part of a larger lifestyle conversation. The brands that understand this shift will be those that can bring together aspiration and authenticity, quality and purpose, and enjoyment and intention.
For me, building Savore is about being part of this evolution.
The future of luxury may not be defined by having more. It may be defined by choosing thoughtfully, living intentionally and finding greater meaning in everyday experiences.
Perhaps that is the most meaningful form of luxury: the freedom to live well, make considered choices and enjoy the things that bring us joy.
