“Samir Kumar Appointed Country Manager for Amazon India”
Amazon said that veteran Samir Kumar, having 25 years of experience with the company, will become the Country Manager for consumer business in India. This is in the wake of current Country Manager Manish Tiwary leaving the company as he’ll be joining Amazon outside India.
In an email to the team, Amazon SVP Emerging Markets Amit Agarwal has mentioned that Samir has played a critical role in the company and was one of the members of the early launch team when Amazon.in was launched in 2013. As such, the existing reporting lines of the leadership team for Amazon.in – Saurabh Srivastava (Categories); Harsh Goyal (Everyday Essentials), Amit Nanda (Marketplace), and Aastha Jain (Growth Initiatives) – will now report into Samir. Kishore Thota (Emerging Markets Shopping Experience) reports into Amit.
Manish Tiwary is working with Samir at the moment to ensure smooth hand-over and will take on the operational role for India from October. While thanking Manish for his leadership toward establishing Amazon.in as the number one online marketplace for customers in India, Amit Agarwal wished him all success for his future initiatives.
Amit pointed out the strategic importance of India in Amazon’s plan and looked forward to prospects for the future under Samir’s management and with a powerful local team that would strive for improvement in customer experiences while expanding Amazon business opportunities in the region.
