In an exclusive conversation with The Mauve, the actress opens up about the complexities of playing Yashashvini, looking beyond first impressions and finding the emotions beneath a strong personality.
Some characters command attention the moment they enter a room. Others reveal their complexities only when you look a little closer. For Bhagyashree Limaye, her upcoming role as Yashashvini in Nine to Five belongs to the latter category. A character who comes across as dominating and determined, Yashashvini has an emotional dimension that makes her more than just a strong personality on screen.
Produced by Rusk Media and Alright TV, Nine to Five explores professional environments and the personal experiences that shape the people navigating them. Ahead of its premiere on the Alright TV YouTube channel, Bhagyashree opens up about approaching Yashashvini’s contrasting traits, understanding the motivations behind her behaviour and bringing authenticity to a character who refuses to be defined by a single quality.
Beyond the First Impression
A dominating personality is often the easiest thing to notice, but it is rarely the whole story. For Bhagyashree, the challenge of playing Yashashvini lies in looking beyond that initial impression and exploring the emotions that exist beneath her assertive exterior.
“Yashashvini is a dominating character, but I think there is an emotional side to her as well. She is not someone who can be understood through just one quality. There are different layers to her personality, and that is what makes her interesting to play. She knows what she wants, but there are also moments when she has to step back and understand a situation differently,” Bhagyashree shares.
It is this contrast between certainty and vulnerability that gives the character room to evolve. Rather than approaching Yashashvini as someone defined entirely by her authority, the actress looks at the nuances that make her behaviour more human. After all, the people who appear the most self-assured can have their own moments of uncertainty, reflection and emotional conflict.
Finding the Person Behind the Personality
For an actor, portraying a strong character involves more than delivering confident dialogue or projecting authority. It requires an understanding of what drives that confidence in the first place.
Bhagyashree believes that exploring a character’s circumstances is essential to making a performance feel believable. The intention is not simply to portray how a person behaves, but to understand the emotions and experiences that might explain those choices.
“I think it is important to understand why a character behaves in a particular way. Sometimes, what appears to be a strong or dominating attitude may also come from the circumstances that person is dealing with. As an actor, I try to understand those emotions and bring them into my performance. That makes the character feel more real instead of making her one-dimensional,” she says.
This approach allows Yashashvini to exist beyond familiar character archetypes. Her assertiveness becomes one part of a larger personality, leaving space for the audience to discover what lies beneath her outward confidence.
Imperfect, Ambitious and Human
One of the most interesting aspects of stories set in professional environments is the way they bring together ambition, interpersonal relationships and the private emotions that rarely remain outside the workplace. People may occupy different positions, carry different aspirations and approach situations in contrasting ways, but their experiences are often shaped by a shared desire to be understood.
For Bhagyashree, the appeal of Nine to Five lies in the humanity of its characters. Their imperfections and contradictions make them relatable, allowing viewers to recognise familiar aspects of themselves and the people around them.
“What I like about stories like this is that the characters are not necessarily perfect. They have their own strengths, weaknesses and ways of dealing with life. That is what makes them human. I hope viewers get to see different shades of Yashashvini and understand her beyond their first impression of her,” the actress concludes.
A Character With More Than One Side
With Nine to Five, Bhagyashree Limaye takes on a character whose personality invites audiences to look twice. Yashashvini may initially be defined by her dominating presence, but her emotional side promises another dimension to her portrayal.
As the series prepares to premiere on Alright TV’s YouTube channel, the actress’s approach highlights an essential aspect of character-driven storytelling: strength and vulnerability need not exist in opposition. Sometimes, understanding one is the key to discovering the other.
And perhaps that is what makes Yashashvini worth watching — not simply who she appears to be, but everything that exists beneath the surface.
